…and we were not far away …only couple of hours.… (Saturday Afternoon)

Soon Tamhini ghat started. And our journey got hectic. The ghat was long and lengthy with so many turns and hot sun outside. No sign of greenery outside. Somehow by 3 pm we reached @ Diveagar and @ the home of the localite to whom we had contacted earlier for making arrangements for accommodations. We had set off @ 9 am and reached @ 3 pm. We took time, as we had to ask for routes and landmarks. Also the road condition @ ghat was not so good, so we had to reduce our speed. The localite @ Diveagar :- Mr Satvilkar was petite man in his late 30s. He had this built like BRUCE LEE. He had his own house. And on top floor he had built a small room with attached toilet and bathroom. It was very HOT and humid. The Fan was not helping us. The beach was really @ stone throws distance from Satvilkar’s house. We felt like tearing our clothes apart and getting naked. All of us were sweating profusely. Abhijit was much worried about time whether we are doing proper things @ proper time. Yogi was desperate to get into the sea. But no one wanted to go out in the sun. Before everyone could decide @ what time we should go to beach, everyone took rest and njoyed making fun of me, yogi being in the forefront.

10 saal pehle bhi who gaane purane hue the! …

I remember while planning, I had agreed that, I will bring songs for the picnic. And I kept my word. I had brought a pen drive (1 GB) and had bought songs (300 MB) J . Yogi was sitting next to Driver. So he took charge of being our DJ. He plugged in my pen drive to the audio player and the songs started playing. To everyone’s surprise the songs were not latest. Songs like “It’s the time to disco!” and “Dil nahi lagada – bally sagoo” and “Kya kehte ho?” etc.,
These songs were either too old, or unfamiliar to everyone except me. Yogesh played next track after listening to first 15- 25 secs of every track and finally getting fed up he said : - “Areee kya omkar??? …..tereko gana leke aane bola….tu ye kya leke aaaya ? aaan ? …. Dus saal pehle bhi ye gaane purane ho gaye the….tu kya leke aaya re?” With this comment of his …. All of us started rolling with laughter. His comments were so apt. From here started Dialouges of the picnic. For next 15 mins, all were njoying that moment …yogesh gave us.

Diveagar here we come … (Saturday Morning)

On Saturday, as promised, Abhijit woke up first, then me. But it took a lot of time for all others to wake up completely. Finally we left Swapnil’s home and took some quick snaps before leaving, besides our vehicle i.e.Qualis !
We put our bags in the dikki and settled pretty quickly in the vehicle. Yogesh sat in the front besides the driver. Sandesh and Abhijit sat in the middle and Swapnil, Krish and Me sat behind near the dikki. All positioned and set, took off from Dange chowk. First and foremost task was how to reach there. No one knew the route exactly as all were new to Pune. With Sandesh and Swapnil’s idea, before leaving from google map, Me and Sandesh had jotted down the route to reach Diveagar. We started off in the direction of Chandani Chowk. Once reached there, we took a U turn and took the route to reach the Mulshi lake. We had to go by this route : -
Pune – Paud Road – Mulshi Tamhini Ghat – Mandgaon – Diveagar. In our journey we were hungry as we did not have any breakfast before leaving. We halted by a small hotel cum dhaaba.
And had our breakfast cum lunch. We ordered Misal pav, poha, upma, bhaji , tea and cold drinks. Later we came across the huge Mulshi lake.

The sun was right above our head. And the heat was scorching. But the sight of lake gave us some cool feeling. The sight was pretty similar to the one you must have seen in SWADES movie when Shah Rukh khan travels through a small boat to reach to his native village. Yogi was desperate to get down and take some snaps. Finally our Qualis halted beneath a huge tree. We all got down with Swapnil’s camera for shooting. We took couple of snaps and left.

Picnic begins … (Friday Night)

I completed my work in office and left for Krish’s home @ Aundh. For the first time I uncomfortably shared a 6 seater rickshaw from Wakad fata to Brihman Chowk were
Krish would pick me up. It had cost me 15/- INR. I waited for few minutes and njoyed the view around, beautiful girls all around. Soon Krish came on his bike and we left for his home.
In the mean time, Swapnil was busy in shifting his home @ Dange Chowk. Me and Krish spent couple of hours exchanging movies, talking about plans etc., Then we left for Swapnil’s home by 7 pm.

We dropped our bags @ his home and we got a call from Mumbai friends (Yogi, Sandy and Abhi) that they are reaching Pune. We also had to place an order for dinner and drinks. So, me, Tayade and Krish went out from his Maruti 800. There was a huge confusion as to whether the Mumbai guys have reached the Dange Chowk or the ADITYA BIRLA HOSPITAL. So we were waiting in Swapnil’s Maruti 800 for our friends. After spending a lot of time, we realized our friends have lost their way and that we should not waste n e time further to place an order for dinner. Else we will have to starve all night.

So we set out in search of non veg hotel. Luckily we found one. Placed an order. Got some drinks and we got a call from friends, that they have reached Aditya Birla Hospital. We Asked them to wait

..And sped our way back to the Aditya birla hospital after taking the drinks. Soon, we found, Sandesh and Abhijit on one side of the road and yogesh with the quails on the other side. I was waiving my hand @ yogi. But he could not see us. But Sandesh spot us and he gave us a shout. Actually he wanted to pee badly . Soon we signaled the driver to come on this side of the road, where we had halted.
Look @ the situation now, the quails and the driver who did not know the route thereafter parked in front of us … .and swapnil and our maruti were behind him. We spent few more minutes yelling @ each other directing as to how to go, which lane to pick up etc., After sometime, Swapnil signaled to the driver to wait, we drove in front of him and asked him to follow us.

Within next few minutes we reached Swapnil’s new home, and all heaved relief as we stepped into his home. Sandesh heaved a a huge relief as he had to pee urgently !

Then all of us took turns inspecting Swapnil’s new home. We were all in praises for his house. In the forefront was Yogi! In this inspection even the driver joined us and we were not comfortable with him around.
We had brought separate dinner for him, we gave him food. Now was the most difficult task – who will tell the driver to go downstairs and sleep in his quails? I was brave and finished the task smoothly. Soon he went down.
And we all started chatting, discussing, laughing. We had a lots of fun. Yogesh entertained us a lot. Swapnil’s brother – Nikhil was of great help to him in giving us that homely treatment. We started our dinner.
The cork was opened and the vodka shots were prepared by Swapnil. Only yogesh had to do away with Cold drink as he does not drink. We munched on the chicken and several dishes. Of them all the best was the onion salad
That comes with Chicken Tandoor and the most spiciest item was Chicken kaali meerch! Mi and Yogesh were panting and sweating. Phew !!! … I was finding it difficult to swallow down VODKA (Raspberry flavor)…it sucks !
And quickly the vodka started showing its effect, I was feeling heavy and sleepy. But I could not ignore my lovely CHICKEN … how can i? Somehow I managed myself between conscious and sub conscious state of my mind and
Ate my share of chicken completely. After we all were done eating our dinner, we all settled down in gallery of swapnil’s home. It was mid night and @ 11th floor … i.e., the top most floor of the building, cool breeze was flowing.
Now we all started sharing our experience of new companies which we all recently joined and the progress we made so far and how our previous company was unjust on us. We all took turns and opened our hearts. Then it clicked to someone that lets go on Terrace of the building. We went up, it was dark and cold ….we could see the city lights surrounding us. Besides that only light present @ that time was the moon light. We discussed on serious
Issues like arrange and love marriage on terrace. Now everyone was feeling sleepy. We signed off from terrace and came back to his home. Beds were layed and we all slept very soon …. And we slept like babies. Before sleeping, ABHIJIT said in his coarse, stern voice: - “Mi udya lavkar uthnar aani lavkar uthavnar!” (I will get up early and will wake u guys also!) He was confident, that he will be able to do so. I also joined him saying even I will get up early morning @ 6 am. But deep down I knew, I cannot ….so I set my alarm in the mobile and slept. We all retired from our mauj masti by around 3 am.

Friday night planning ...

Although this planning was necessary, but it surely had brought a lot of energy to the picnic members. Guess what was the topic about …. It was FOOD !
What we should have for dinner and drinks on Friday night! We exchanged 50 odd mails to decide upon what should be the dinner menu and drinks preferences.
The drinks topic was very hot. Everyone wanted to be specific as far as drinks were concerned. Poor Yogi only person who would not drink had opted for mocktail which
We never ordered.

Patta saanga kaka (tell me the address Uncle!)

This post will come up soon ... its a hilarious conversation between Yogi and Mr. Satvilkar. Waiting or yogi to give the exact dialogues which i will post here in this post.

Accomodation planning

We had this herculean task to complete, as we had a good experience of booking in advance from our previous picnics. Sandesh suggested either of the three beaches: -
Diveagar, Srivardhan and Harihareshwar !

He sent 2 options for accommodation. One was Mauli Resort @ Diveagar and other one was a resort @ Srivardhan! The srivardhan resort had an interesting option for accommodation and that was a MACCHAN….a small house like structure atop a tree. It sounded adventourous. But we had plans to sing, dance, act, play games and had valuables with us. So thinking about security, and other feasibility parameters, we cancelled that. But Mauli resort was a bit expensive.

Till the beginning of the picnic no one was aware, where are we going to stay. Yogesh had kept it really low profile, since too much discussion and planning for accomodation lead us to no concrete conclusion.

However, later yogesh came across this wonder full link through which we came to know that , there was a cheaper option that is room in localities’ home. Yogesh was contact point thereon. He contacted the person, his name is SATVILKAR ... and asked him to make arrangements for us.
